(1) Diamond abrasive layer

The diamond abrasive layer, also known as the working layer, is composed of diamond abrasives, binders and pores, and is the working part of the grinding wheel for grinding. Diamond is the subject of grinding behavior; The bond binder binds the diamond abrasive grains into a mold with a certain geometry; Porosity characterizes the compactness of the mold, has a direct impact on grinding efficiency and work quality, and can also play a role in heat dissipation and chip containment.

(2) Transition layer

The transition layer, also known as the non-diamond layer, does not contain diamond abrasives, is composed of a bond, metal powder and filler, and is the part that firmly connects the diamond layer to the matrix. In order to simplify the manufacturing process, it is also possible to eliminate the transition layer.

(3) Matrix

The matrix is used to carry the abrasive layer and is firmly clamped to the grinding machine spindle with a flange when in use.

According to the different types of bonds, the matrix material of the diamond grinding wheel can be steel, aluminum alloy, bakelite, etc. Generally, the metal bond grinding wheel is made of steel and alloy steel powder as the matrix; The resin bond grinding wheel is made of aluminum alloy and bakelite matrix. The matrix plays the role of supporting the working layer and loading the abrasive. The quality of grinding wheel forming and the level of accuracy of use have a lot to do with the matrix. The lighter the matrix under the premise of ensuring strength and stiffness, the better, so the aluminum matrix is more common.

Characteristics of diamond grinding wheels

Diamond grinding wheel is a super hard abrasive grinding wheel, compared with ordinary abrasive grinding wheel, it has very obvious characteristics and advantages:

The hardness of diamond abrasives determines the main characteristics of diamond grinding wheels, which can efficiently grind difficult materials such as cemented carbide, glass, ceramics, etc., and grinding tools have a long service life.

Diamond has high wear resistance, grinding wheel wear is small, long use time, in the grinding process, diamond abrasive grain size, shape and morphology change is small, suitable for high-precision processing, and high production efficiency, diamond grinding wheel can meet the requirements of efficient and precision machining at the same time.

The sharpened diamond grinding wheel can maintain the micro-edge of the abrasive grain for a long time, and the good cutting performance ensures a small grinding force during the grinding process, thereby reducing the grinding power and saving energy.

The thermal conductivity ofdiamondis very good, which is conducive to the evacuation of heat, reduces the phenomenon of burns, cracks and lumps of the workpiece, and can improve the processing quality of the workpiece surface.

Classification of diamond grinding wheels

Diamond grinding wheels can be divided into:resin bond diamond grinding wheels according to the bond; ceramic bond diamond grinding wheel; Metal and electroplated metal bond diamond grinding wheels.

Diamond grinding wheels can be divided into:sintered diamond grinding wheels according to the production process; Electroplated diamond grinding wheel; Brazed diamond grinding wheels.

Diamond grinding wheels can be divided into:diamond grinding wheels according to the grinding method; diamond grinding wheel for grinding cemented carbide; Diamond grinding wheel for grinding diamond composite sheet: centerless grinding diamond grinding wheel for coreless grinding machine; Diamond grinding wheel for grinding ceramic products: diamond grinding wheel for cutting (also known as diamond cutting disc); Diamond blade.

Diamond grinding wheels can be divided into:parallel grinding wheels according to appearance or shape; cylindrical grinding wheel; cup-shaped grinding wheel; bowl-shaped grinding wheel; disc grinding wheel; grinding wheels; grinding discs, etc.

The use of diamond grinding wheels

Because diamond abrasives have the characteristics and advantages of high hardness, high compressive strength and good wear resistance, diamond grinding wheel has become the preferred tool for hard and brittle materials such as optical glass, ceramics, gemstones, semiconductor materials, stone and other hard and brittle materials with low iron content that are difficult to process by ordinary abrasives such as cemented carbide grinding. The use of diamond grinding wheel not only has high efficiency and high precision, but also has the characteristics of good roughness, low abrasive consumption and long service life, and can also improve the working environment. With the continuous development of modern grinding processing to high quality, high precision, high efficiency and automation, the role of diamond grinding wheels is becoming more and more obvious.

Diamond grinding wheels are used in almost all fields of industry, aerospace, mold manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, optical processing manufacturing, etc. Ceramic materials, optical materials, aero-engine turbine blades, silicon wafer products, etc. are mostly ground with diamond grinding wheels.
